Alan Macleod

Alan MacLeod is a principal of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek Government Affairs (WHDGA), a subsidiary of the law firm Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. He is in charge of the operations in the WHDGA Washington DC office. A native of Washington, D.C. area, Alan has more than twenty years of experience in public affairs. His sharp understanding of Washington politics and his experiences in various positions in education, non-profit organizations and the government has earned for him a comprehensive network of former associates and professional contacts.

Prior to his work in WHDGA, Alan Macleod was with Congressman Ron Kind of Wisconsin’s Third District and served as Chief of Staff from January 2001 to February 2003. Prior to his work with Rep. Ron Kind, Alan Macleod worked as senior staff for Sen. John Glenn’s Democratic presidential candidate bid in 1984.

Under Congressman Kind, Alan Macleod worked with constituents from the farming sector for the Conservation Amendment to the 2002 Farm Bill, proposing agriculture policy reforms in conservation, public health, family farmers and sustainable agriculture; and budget spending to include environmental protection, wildlife conservation and public health.

As Director for State Affairs of the national coalition of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association, he helped build the coalition that proposed for legislative and regulatory reforms in the Food and Drug Administration.

Alan Macleod also served as the National Field Director for the National Council of Senior Citizens (re-launched as the Alliance for Retired Americans in May 2001) where he built a national program to train seniors on grassroots advocacy and in promoting their legislative agenda. Prior to that, Alan was Political Director of the National Association of Homebuilders and was tasked with organizing homebuilders to run as delegates to presidential conventions and conducting workshops on political advocacy campaigns.

One of the most publicized clients of Alan’s WHDGA is the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that supports research for treatments for spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders. Alan Macleod has also represented and lobbied on behalf of the Environmental Defense, Chesapeake Bay Commission, McKinley Reserve, and the University of Southern California.

Alan graduated from the University of Maryland where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982 and a Masters of Public Policy in 1986.
